"Author, visual artist, and award-winning poet Lauren Wolk will visit Whelden Memorial Library on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m.

Wolk is the assistant director of the Cape Cod Writer’s Center and associate director of the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in South Yarmouth.

She is also the best-selling author of two novels for young readers, Newbery Honor-winning Wolf Hollow (2016) and the hauntingly beautiful Beyond the Bright Sea (2017), which won the 2018 Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction.

The impact of Wolf Hollow, Wolk’s tale of a distressed and misunderstood adult being taken under the wing of a child, has been compared to that of To Kill A Mockingbird.

Beyond the Bright Sea is set in the Elizabeth Islands, which prompted Whelden librarian Liz Merna to reach out to Wolk and invite her to speak.

Wolk’s accolades also include a 2016 New England Book Award and a 2017 Jane Addams Honor.

Please call 508-362-2262 to register for Wolk’s talk. Whelden Library is located at 2401 Meetinghouse Way in West Barnstable."
